Key Elements for Better Web Design

Well, it is deceptively difficult to design a website, as it has to be functional, pleasing, delivers relevant information, technically sound, and visually coherent. Website gives your business a brand identity. It is often observed that medium of designing a website keeps changing recurrently with the advent of every new technology. However, the approach to these changes may be wrong and you may not get the desired result.

To develop and design a fully functional site, below are the useful points you need to take care of before, during and after the development of a website. It is explained under three categories;

First key element
Website designing is not merely a compilation of pretty pictures but it’s with plenty of information that helps you to invite your probable audience. Therefore, it is important for one to design a website with usability like navigation, precedence and others. Precedence is something with which you take your user to go through every step in your site. A user goes from logo to prime positioning statement, then to the crunchy image, and then to the main body text. Right positioning, use of appropriate color, contrast, size and design elements are the few tools with which you can achieve precedence. On a website, the user moves from one spot to other or from one page to another through navigation key. You easily understand where you are and where you have to go on a site with navigation. You can orient a user through number of ways such as a heading, sub-heading, ‘down’ button, ‘menu’ button, site map or bread crumb trails.

Another important thing your website design should give emphasis on is to do what people want from you. List out the tasks people usually visit sites for, how they will achieve those tasks, and how easily you let them obtain these tasks. You may not know, but a minute thing can do wonders for your site.

Second key element
It is a wrong assumption to fill every corner of your site with stuffs like text, images, links or ads. In actuality, the opposite is true. A web design should focus on spacing to make it functional. Spacing includes:
Line spacing– The space between two lines should be appropriate, neither too little nor too much.
Padding– Text or images on a web page should not touch and overlap each other.
White space– The term refers to the empty spaces available on a web page. A lot of white space makes things graceful and up-market.
Also, text in any website is the biggest element of it. Therefore, considering typography is must, like font choices, font sizes, spacing, line length, color and paragraphing of the text that leads to perfect spacing. Another important criterion is to keep the text and other stuffs aligned on a web page. Alignment helps your web site to be designed in more systematic, digestible and polished way.

Third and most important key element
A perfect web design is one that is crisp and sharp with clarity and consistency. When we talk about clarity, we talk about pixels. In CSS, everything is pixel perfect but same is not the case with Photoshop. To make your site consistent, each part on the site should be themed to establish coherence between different pages and on the similar page of your site. Another way to add longer consistency on your site is to follow a good set of CSS.
